A Little Bit About Prineville, Oregon from New Era Homes

Founded in 1877, Prineville, Oregon, was named after its first merchant: Barney Prine. For decades, it was the major town in Central Oregon. When the railroad came through the area, Prineville was overlooked and eventually became a ghost town.

In 1917, residents voted to build a railway of their own to connect themselves to the mainline almost 20 miles away. This changed the fate of Prineville. Thanks to rich timber harvests from Ochoco National Forest, Prineville prospered.

Apple and Facebook have invested in Prineville in the last decade. Investing over a billion dollars, each company has built multiple data centers within the city limits.

Facebook recently announced in May of 2020 that they would build a ninth data center in Prineville, bringing jobs and boosting the local economy.
